YAMI SUMI
墨
Sumi
Pronunciation: Su-mi
Meaning
Ink - Traditional Japanese Ink
In Japanese, 墨 (Sumi) is the traditional black ink used in Japanese calligraphy and ink painting. While it doesn't literally mean tattoo ink, it has become closely associated with artistic expression, making it the perfect symbol for the craft.
Together...
Yami Sumi (闇墨) is not an established Japanese phrase. It's a name that we've created by combining
two beautiful Japanese words.
Together, we use Yami Sumi to mean Dark Ink.
It represents the stories behind the tattoos, the artists, the people and the culture that make Dark Neon what it is. This includes news, updates, and anything happening at our tattoo & piercing studio in Northcliff square, Johannesburg.
This is the world behind the ink.
闇
Yami
Pronunciation: Ya-mi
Meaning
Darkness - Shadow - The Unknown
In Japanese, 闇 (Yami) represents darkness - not simply the absence of light, but mystery, depth, and everything waiting to be discovered. To us, it reflects the hidden stories, the quiet moments behind the art work, and the creative journey.
